Starting out in literary translation

Wandering words?

Wandering words?

I am often asked how I got into literary translation. One great way of honing your skills and gaining confidence is to work on short pieces for journals, and over a number of years I had the chance to translate a series of stories and poems for Palabras Errantes, a collaborative online project established by Cherilyn Elston that publishes contemporary Latin American writing in translation. From Venezuelan poetry to Mexican science fiction, you can find my translations gathered here.
