TA First Translation Prize

It was a huge boost to my confidence to have my first novel translation shortlisted for The Society of Authors’ Translators Association First Translation Prize, awarded for a debut literary translation into English published in the UK. The judges were Daniel Hahn, Philip Gwyn Jones and Margaret Jull Costa, and they had this to say about Fireflies:

Translator Fionn Petch gives us Sagasti in a voice that is just as erudite, meditative and beautifully poetic as it needs to be but conveyed with absolutely readable clarity, too – a lot harder to do than it looks.

The prize was created by the inimitable Danny Hahn (OBE), and he wrote a short piece about the 2018 shortlist here.
